Marariromba

from Madzinga by Sekuru Tute Chigamba

about

Marariromba means "Singing through the night." As Sekuru Chigamba explains:

Moving on to "Marariromba," I noted that I never tire of playing mbira. Yes, I can play all night long, and even spend an entire week playing. Through the night, through the afternoon, I can just keep on playing. So it is just the same as someone who spends the whole night singing without tiring. He has been given a type of medicine called chiparurangoma. Yes, he’s taken chiparurangoma so that he won’t tire. The drum will split, and he’ll still be singing. So those are the origins of “Marariromba.”
